7 Halloween Costume Ideas for Your Dog in 2020

How we celebrate Halloween this year may not be the same as past years. With the pandemic still coursing through the world, and rules in place that vary state-by-state, it’s hard to know how we’ll be celebrating the upcoming holidays. However, just because we’ll be doing things differently this year doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! Here are 7 Halloween costume ideas for your dog in 2020.

Salute to Your Delivery Persons

These days, we are relying on the mail more than ever. The United States Postal Service, UPS and FedEx allow us to feel close to our loved ones without physically being able to be with them. What better way to salute the hardworking men and women who deliver our mail, packages, and even groceries than to dress up your dog as one this Halloween?

You can find a mail carrier or other delivery person costume at a local Halloween store. If you do not have one of these stores around locally, check your online retailers. Or even get creative! Grab a shirt from Uber, or your favorite local delivery restaurant and size it to make your dog stylish. What better way to say thanks for all that our delivery people do?

Get Prehistoric

Dinosaurs aren’t just for kids, they’re for our dogs too! Really, who doesn’t find dinosaurs interesting at the very least? What better way to show your prehistoric interests and give others a good laugh than to dress your dog up as a dinosaur this Halloween?

There is triceratops headgear that your dog can show off around the neighborhood. Or even a simple DIY solution can be to find yourself a green shirt that you can tailor to fit your dog. Then glue or sew small triangles on the back to be their dinosaur scales.

For Disney Fans

Disney films have been popular for decades. There are so many choices if you want to dress your dog up in a Disney related costume. There are so many different princesses to choose from. From Snow White to Tiana, there are almost too many choices!

If you have two dogs, make it a couple’s costume. Head out with Mickey and Minnie! With their big, round ears, you’re sure to get some chuckles from passersby. Each princess has her prince, so get creative and write your own doggie fairytale.

Classic Movies for the Win

Movies grab our attention and put fantasy and wonder into our heads and hearts. What better way to memorialize some of our favorite movies than to show your dog around town with a great classic movie costume.

If you want to go very far back, the classic movies monsters can be great inspiration. Dracula or Frankenstein’s monster can be great choices. Or what about films you may have grown up with? Doc Brown and Marty McFly are a great duo, as are Luke and Leia. Heading out with a whole gang this Halloween? Follow the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tinman and the Cowardly Lion.

Whatever your favorite movies are, you’ll certainly be able to find a costume to match.

Keep it Simple with Animals

You may be walking around with your dog, but that doesn’t mean they can’t pretend to be another animal. There are a bunch of different animal costumes out there for your dog. Dress them up as a shark with an iconic fin on their back. Even a little piggy with their cute ears and flat snout could be a fun idea. Your dog could be a crab, a bumblebee, or even a unicorn with just a bit of imagination.

Masquerade as a Different Holiday

Halloween may be a holiday for pumpkins and candy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get inspired by your other favorite holiday either. Take a look at some of the great holiday-inspired costumes you can get your dog into:

  • Frosty the Snowman
  • Santa’s elves
  • A leprechaun
  • The Grinch
  • Rudolph
  • Charlie Brown

Wherever you take your inspiration from, holiday costumes are a big hit.

Make Your Dog a Mascot for Your Fav Sports Team

If you’re still not sure what costume would be a great fit for your dog, you could always use your favorite sports team as an idea. You’ve probably got a shirt or hat sitting around that you could repurpose into your dog’s costume. What better way to show your favorite sports team some love this Halloween than by making your dog their mascot?

Whatever costume you choose for your dog, it’s exciting to get into the spirit of the season! Now, light that pumpkin spice scented candle, bust out the candy corn, queue up your favorite Halloween movie, and settle in with your costumed pup. Happy Halloween!
